About St George Montessori

St George Montessori has been providing quality care and education since May 2005. We are passionate about providing children the best start to their learning journey.

What sets St George Montessori apart from the rest?

The combination of our curriculum, facilities and passionate team set us apart from our competitors. We provide a holistic approach to your child’s education by combining the Montessori curriculum with the Early Years Learning Framework 2.0 (EYLF) and National quality standards. We also provide nature play and a sustainability program that includes environmentally focused playgrounds, chickens, vegetable gardens and compost programs. Our extracurricular activities vary at each centre subject to children’s interests but could include Happy Feet, Soccer Joeys, language classes, dance classes and Munch and Move. All our centres provide healthy nutritious meals, prepared onsite by our centre cook. We also take pride in winning the 2018 St George Local Business Awards and being a finalist in 2019.

The Montessori Approach

At St George Montessori Early Learning Centres, we use the Montessori method of teaching. Montessori education is unique, based on the discoveries and insights of Dr. Maria Montessori who devoted her life to observing natural child development, and designed and implemented an educational method devoted to the individual needs of the child. The Montessori method is a world-wide educational approach proven extremely successful.
To compliment the Montessori approach, the Montessori method of teaching uses exclusively designed materials that are exclusive to the Montessori theory of learning. The materials and resources at our centres are designed to attract the children to pursue the need to educate themselves through stimulating activities. Montessori maintained that ‘progressive interest’ should characterise the young child’s world.

In the Montessori classroom, children are given the freedom (within limits) to choose what work they will do and for how long they will engage in that activity. The room is divided into seven interconnected areas of activities to assist children in their development.

Our centre enhances children’s capacity by learning about practical life activities, sensory activities to develop the child’s visual, auditory and physical senses, language activities, mathematics, geography, learning science such as plants and animals, and artistic activities like painting and more.

The curriculum at St George Montessori is child initiated, play based and guided by the Early Years Learning Framework 2.0 (EYLF), National Quality Standards and Montessori theories of learning. Our curriculum, exclusive to us, provides a holistic approach to education and combines the EYLF with the Montessori curriculum.

This combination develops the child’s core learning not only for the classroom but for life. The Framework conveys the highest expectations for all children’s learning from birth to five years and through the transitions to school. Fundamental to the EYLF is a view of children’s lives as characterised by belonging, being and becoming.

At St George Montessori we offer nursery aged children 0-2 years old, a program with a wide variety of learning experiences utilising the Montessori approach to education. The focus of the infant/toddlers environment is fostering basic trust in the child by providing a safe and loving home like environment.

In the infants and toddlers room we allow the child to develop according to his/her own natural growth pattern and have the freedom to create his/her own personality. We follow a simple daily routine divided into morning, lunch and afternoon activities.

In this age group the young child’s need for order, movement, sensory-motor experiences, language experiences and social interaction, guide the conceptual framework for our Montessori pre-school program.

The classroom offers space for movement, space for individual work, and space for group activities. Children are given opportunities to work in the development of language skill, art, music, sensorial, and practical life. We use a number of multi-sensory, sequential, and self-correcting Montessori materials to facilitate learning.

Our philosophy

The framework is a key component of the National Quality Standards for early childhood education and care. Belonging, Being and Becoming – The Early Years Learning Framework 2.0 (EYLF) describes the principles, practices and outcomes that support and enhance young children’s learning from birth to five years of age, as well as their transition to school.

The Framework conveys the highest expectations for all children’s learning from birth to five years and through the transitions to school. It communicates these expectations through the following five Learning Outcomes:

Our values

We believe that the first six years of a child’s life is crucial to their development and learning potential. During this time, the child’s power of absorption is the highest and is when certain essential skills are more readily learned. A child in this crucial phase, sets the foundation for learning, openness, curiosity and wonder that is lifelong.
We believe that the Montessori education is “education for life”.
We believe children who are given the freedom to follow and pursue their interests and challenge their strengths, are generally happy and busy children. Children are encouraged to attempt tasks in a supportive and non-judgmental environment. We will help children reach their full maximum learning potential in all areas of life
We believe all children should be included. For children requiring additional support we will liaise with their families, as well as local agencies to ensure adequate support is provided with long term goals in place
We welcome all families into our service at all times and ensure that they feel comfortable and valued. We encourage families to share ideas and receive information concerning the care and education of their child. We believe that parent input and involvement, promotes the strong link between the early childhood program and the family unit.
We believe that the Montessori learning environment plays a critical role in affecting the potential development and growth of the child. It is through the child’s exploration and discoveries, imagination and creativity that knowledge and concepts are understood. The learning environment is designed to reinforce the child’s independence and natural urge toward developing their self-help skills in a safe and stimulating atmosphere.
We believe that our educators should be caring, consistent, patient, confident, flexible, accepting and sensitive to the individual needs of the children. This offers security, familiarity, love and trust to all members of our community.
Our educators represent a diversity of education, training, cultural backgrounds and life experiences. We recognise the varied experience, skills and abilities that the educators bring to the service. We are committed to ongoing professional development and training – supporting one another.
We aim to provide an inclusive curriculum, that: Reflects the values and beliefs for all educators, children and their families regardless of their gender, cultural background, age, religion, or ability.
We encourage liaising with other children’s services, local schools, local councils and community support groups on an ongoing basis.
