International Gardening Week at Peakhurst - The Importance of Gardening in Early Learning

October 10, 2018

To celebrate International Gardening Week, our Little Ducklings at Peakhurst made delicious smoothies with ingredients straight from our vegetable garden!

They picked some fresh, organic kale, silver beet and spinach and added in some apple, banana and cucumber into a blender to make a healthy, yummy drink! It was very tasty and they had lots of fun!

As part of our sustainability program, every St George Montessori has it’s own vegetable garden. The children are taught about the different herbs and vegetables along with nutrition and healthy eating, they help to up-keep and water their plants and then get to harvest them to use as part of their cooking classes.

It is a great practical way to incorporate learning about nutrition while having fun! It develops a sense of nurturing, promotes self-confidence and provides a sense of achievement.
